Principal's Message

Welcome to the new school year! The teachers and staff at Hazeltine are all anticipating a very successful school year, and we look forward to working with you and your children.

Remember that you are the first, most long lasting, important teacher in your child's life. That is why we, at Hazeltine Elementary School, continually solicit your involvement and support. Research shows that parent involvement is high on the list of factors contributing to a student's success in school.

How can you get involved?

  • Show your children you are interested and concerned. At home, take the time each day to talk to them about their experiences in school. This will motivate them to want to learn.

  • We are asking you to commit fifteen minutes per day to read with your child. Read a book that is at a higher level than you child’s reading level- reading allows them to acquire new language and vocabulary.

  • Get involved at school by maintaining contact with your child's teacher. You are always welcome to send notes and to request conferences with your child’s teacher via phone calls or in person. It is also imperative that you attend bi-annual parent conferences.

  • Attend school events, and informational meetings. Be supportive of the exciting school-wide activities held each year.

  • Let your child know you are working together with the teacher and the school to help make your child's education beneficial.

Remember that our school motto is “College Begins at Hazeltine.”  Make sure that your child is aware that attending college is your expectation for him/her. As a school our goal is not only to provide an outstanding instructional program for all students, but also to instill qualities that will enable them to become successful adults. Working together as a team can make the school year a very successful one for your child. I look forward to working with you!

Sincerely,

Seth Avery
